Effects of furrow and alternate-furrow irrigation regimes on soil water reserves and total water consumption of double-cropped mung bean varieties

Abstract

Based on the results of the 2021 field experiment, this article evaluates the effects of traditional furrow irrigation and alternate-furrow irrigation on the 'Marjon' and 'Durdona' mung bean varieties grown as a double crop under meadow-alluvial soil conditions in the Bukhara region. The study analyzes total water consumption, soil water reserves, groundwater contribution, and water application rates under different pre-irrigation soil moisture regimes (65-65-65%, 70-70-65%, and 75-75-65% of field capacity). The findings demonstrate that alternate-furrow irrigation combined with a 70-70-65% field capacity regime significantly improves water-saving efficiency while maintaining high grain yields.
