Yield and productivity of intercrops of mung bean varieties with cotton under the conditions of Tashkent region

Abstract

The experiments studied various sowing patterns and seeding rates of mung bean in cotton inter-rows. It was established that intercropping has a beneficial mutual effect on the crops. Cotton yield in intercrops was 36.81-37.90 c/ha, exceeding the monocrop (30.90 c/ha) by 19-23%. This increase was achieved due to an improved soil nitrogen regime through symbiotic nitrogen fixation of the legume component and optimal plant stand density. Mung bean yield as an intercrop ranged from 7.02 to 14.33 c/ha depending on varietal characteristics and the placement pattern. The total productivity of the obtained conditional agrocenosis reached 51.20 c/ha, significantly surpassing monocultures. The calculation of the Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) showed that in all studied treatments, its values exceeded unity and ranged from 1.46 to 1.75, confirming the high economic and agronomic feasibility of the technology. Based on the data obtained, for the soil and climatic conditions of the Tashkent region, the most optimal intercropping pattern for cotton cv. Sulton with mung bean cv. Zilola and Marjon is the 45×12 and 45×15 cm pattern. For the Ravshan variety, the 45×9 cm sowing pattern is recommended.
