Methods and criteria for assessing the level of retail trade development in regions

This article examines the role and importance of retail trade in a market economy. The study proposes a comprehensive multi-factor approach to assess the level of retail trade development. The evaluation system is based on five key indicators: retail turnover volume, retail turnover per capita, density of trade enterprises, investment in the trade sector, and trade infrastructure capacity. The min-max normalization method is applied to ensure comparability of indicators. Based on the case of Jizzakh region, the level of retail trade development is assessed, and existing challenges as well as development prospects are identified. The findings provide a basis for developing scientifically grounded recommendations aimed at improving trade infrastructure, increasing investment activity, and expanding the consumer market.
