The effect of planting depth and minituber weight on haulm and root mass of the Sante potato cultivar

Abstract

In this article evaluated the effects of planting minitubers of the Sante potato cultivar weighing <5, 6-10, 11-20, and 21-30 g at depths of 4-5, 6-7, and 8-9 cm on haulm and root mass per plant. According to the three-year mean data, planting at a depth of 4-5 cm increased haulm mass by 6.1-7.4% and root mass by 9.8-11.1% across all minituber weight fractions compared with the control. The highest values were recorded when 21-30 g minitubers were planted at a depth of 4-5 cm, with haulm mass reaching 330.2 g and root mass 45.0 g per plant.
