The article examines the impact of employee competency development on the competitiveness of small businesses. It analyzes the influence of professional knowledge, practical skills, digital competencies, and employees' innovation potential on product and service quality, labor productivity, customer service, and market position. The role of small business in Uzbekistan's modern economy is assessed using statistical data. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms through which employee competency development contributes to higher enterprise competitiveness. The study proposes a competency development model based on diagnostics, targeted training, practical application, and performance evaluation. The findings support the view that employee training should be considered not only as an educational process but also as a strategic instrument for developing sustainable competitive advantages in small businesses.
